Introduction

What ROBO BATTLE is
In a combat robot competition two remote-controlled robots fight each other in a closed, protected arena. The winner is the robot that disables its opponent or, by the judges' decision, fights better.
The Georgian Robotics Association held its first combat robot championship, ROBO BATTLE 2025, on 26 July 2025 — with 92 teams and more than 10,000 visitors.
Weight classes
ROBO BATTLE 2025 had three weight classes:
- Beetleweight — 0.5–1.5 kg: the best choice for beginners — cheap, easy to build and less dangerous;
- Hobbyweight — 1.5–5 kg;
- Featherweight — 5–15 kg: more powerful robots, more experience needed and stricter safety requirements.
The exact rules and classes for each championship are published on the competition page.
The team
At ROBO BATTLE 2025 a team had 2–5 members, aged 16+; a team with minors needed a member over 18. A team could enter several classes.
Safety
Combat robots are serious machines, so safety comes first:
- the robot must switch on and off with an easy-to-reach switch;
- if the radio link is lost, the robot must stop on its own (failsafe);
- spinning weapons and sharp parts must be covered outside the arena;
- batteries must be protected and firmly mounted;
- test only in a protected space.
How to start
Start with a Beetleweight: a simple chassis, two motors, a radio transmitter and receiver, speed controllers and a battery. A wedge or pusher is a common first design — simple but effective. Then add a weapon and keep testing.
